PARTICIPATE IN A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE:
A Guided Hike to the Dogwood Blooms with David Hurt,
a Champagne Toast and a Visit with Dogwood Canyon's American Kestrel
Join us on one of our special guided hikes to the blooming dogwoods (Cornus florida) located deep in our canyon.
Nearly 20 years ago, David Hurt unexpectedly stumbled upon this grove of dogwoods, a species typically found in the Pineywoods and post oak belts of East Texas, making this a rare and remarkable find for the Dallas area. His story of the history of the center and his discovery will keep you engaged on the hike.
Several dates are offered for the hikes, both weekday and weekend. Depending on how long the blooms last, we may be able to offer additional dates, so please check back.
Morning hikes will begin at 9:00a and the afternoon hikes will begin at 4:00p. Both times are optimal for viewing the dogwoods, avoiding the harshest daylight.
Participants will meet at the center and embark on a partially off-trail journey over hills, through a small creek and into the grove of dogwoods where participants may choose to climb a ladder for a closer look at the blooms and enjoy light snacks. Upon returning to the center, share in a champagne toast to the future of Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center and meet our education bird, an American Kestrel, the smallest falcon in North America. Expect the experience to last approximately 3 hours.
Pricing will be as follows:
- Members*: $30 + add one guest for $20
- Non-members: $40 + add one guest for $30
*Participants must be current members (purchased in the last 12 months) locally at Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center for the member discount. Memberships may be purchased online: Go to www.dogwoodcanyonaudubon.org and click on "Join."
